UPDATE FROM 4TH LEG OF RBI 20TH JUNE

Alex and Malcolm have seen some atrocious conditions in the North Sea as the Force 9, downwind conditions propel them towards Lowestoft and the next stopover in the Shetland Round Britain and Ireland Race. They are still lying 2nd in Class though and are now 2nd overall.

Alex reports it was survial conditions for 12 hours or so with Fujifilm surfing down one wave at 26 knots into a wall of spray. He said you wouldn’t think the North Sea would have such huge, steep waves!

Fujifilm is holding up well. They have had to repair an autopilot and had a problem with the mainsail which may have cost them some time. There are around 100 miles to go to Lowestoft (0930).

The wind and sea conditions are now beginning to abate giving Alex and Malcolm some respite.
